MIXED MEDIA EXPRESSIONISM
|
When I first analyze my work I ask myself, "Just what am I"? I'm not exclusively a photographer even though I use digital imagery, sometimes created with a camera, other times with a computer. I am not strictly a painter because my imagery is not stand alone, but used in conjunction with the digital image. So the best description I can come up with is that I am a "Mixed Media Artist". My work is influenced by such famous modern expressionistic artists as Klee, de kooning, Miró, Pollock, Kandinsky, Dubuffet and (of course) Richter. I find that each of these artists has certain unique and interesting characteristics. I have, therefore, incorporated some of their artistic components in my work, depending on the content of the digital image with which I started. These digital acrylics create fascinating and unique visual contrasts between the realism of the digital image (with its fine detail, infinite colors and/or realistic subject matter) and the spontaneity of acrylic abstract expressionism (characterized by intense colors, random design and surface texture). Unfortunately the texture is not visible on these images. If you look closely you can see the acrylic painting superposed on top on the digital image. It's obvious on some like Sea Oats and Palace Saloon, a bit more difficult on the Abstracts. All of these
pieces are individually hand painted and are therefore
one-of-a-kind. The background
